Five Lakes, Lake system in Muromtsevsky District, Russia
Five Lakes is a group of five interconnected water bodies spread across the border region of Omsk and Novosibirsk, comprising Lake Danilino, Lake Lenevo, Lake Shchuchye, Lake Shaitan, and Lake Urmannoe. The lakes sit within a relatively flat landscape typical of the West Siberian Plain.
The lakes formed during the Weichselian Glaciation approximately 80,000 years ago as the West Siberian landscape was reshaped by ice age processes. They have remained part of this region's natural geography ever since.
The lakes maintain connections to local communities in both the Muromtsevsky District of Omsk Oblast and Kyshtovsky District of Novosibirsk Oblast regions.
The settlement of Kurganka provides the main access point to these lakes, situated roughly one kilometer from the nearest water body. Visitors should plan to travel by personal vehicle or arrange local transport to explore the different lakes effectively.
Lake Shaitan and Lake Urmannoe create a geographical puzzle that confuses many sources, which sometimes treat them as a single water body and other times list them separately. This ambiguity adds an element of mystery to exploring the lake system.
