Losev Redoubt, редут в Омской области, Россия
Losev Redoubt is a historic fortification in Isilkulsky District built in the mid-1700s. The square-shaped installation featured wooden palisades, cannon positions, two gates, and earthen walls that were later reinforced with a ditch approximately 0.75 meters deep.
The fortification was constructed in 1752 by Russian soldiers as part of the defensive line along the Siberian border. In 1755, officers documented the installation with a birch wood palisade and two gates, one featuring a guard post while the other opened toward a nearby lake.
The site is best reached by car as it is a short drive from nearby towns. When visiting, wear comfortable shoes since the terrain is uneven and parts are surrounded by grass or gravel.
The earthworks were reinforced using a method where fresh grass was laid on the slopes and stitched down with wooden pegs. This innovative 18th-century technique proved so effective that the walls remain intact to this day.
