Udelnaya, Historic district in Vyborgsky District, Russia.
Udelnaya is a residential district in the northern part of Saint Petersburg, within the Vyborgsky District, marked by housing blocks, green spaces, and a railway station that links it to the wider city. A metro station also sits within the area, making it one of the more connected neighborhoods in this part of the city.
The area grew from a suburban stretch on the edge of the city into a built-up neighborhood after a rail line was laid through it in the late 19th century. Soviet-era construction then added large residential blocks throughout the 20th century, giving the district the mixed look it has today.
The Udelny Market is an open-air market where vendors sell antiques, books, tools, and everyday goods spread across rows of stalls. Walking through it gives a direct sense of how people in the area trade and socialize outside of formal retail spaces.
The district is easy to reach by train or metro, and most of the residential streets are comfortable to walk once you arrive. If you plan to visit the market, weekends are when activity picks up and more vendors are present.
The name Udelnaya comes from the Russian word for lands held by the imperial family, since the area was once part of estates belonging to the Romanovs. A handful of wooden houses from that pre-Soviet era still survive between the later apartment blocks, easy to spot if you look away from the main roads.
