Ural Republic, Administrative region in central Sverdlovsk Oblast, Russia.
The Ural Republic was a short-lived administrative division in central Russia centered on industrial production and resource extraction. The territory included major mining zones and manufacturing facilities spread across the region between European and Siberian plains.
The Ural Republic emerged on July 1, 1993, after a regional referendum sought to establish independence from Moscow. After just four months, the separation was ended through presidential decrees on November 9, 1993.
The region integrated Russian administrative traditions with local Ural identity, reflected in the development of its constitution and proposed regional currency.
The territory was connected through Yekaterinburg, the regional administrative center, via established transport networks. Visitors can still explore the urban infrastructure and industrial sites that operated during this period.
Regional politicians designed the Ural franc as a proposed new currency to symbolize economic independence. However, this currency never entered circulation before the project ended.
