Church of Saint Sergius in Rogozhskaya Sloboda

The Church of Saint Sergius is an Orthodox place of worship built in Empire style with classical architectural features and constructed from brick. The building rises prominently on Nikoloyamskaya Street with its traditional Orthodox design visible from the street.

Construction began in 1601 on this religious site, replacing an earlier wooden chapel that had stood there before. Over the following centuries, it developed into an established center of Orthodox worship in eastern Moscow.

The church sits at the heart of Rogozhskaya Sloboda, a neighborhood shaped by Orthodox faith and religious communities. It remains a place where local believers gather for worship and spiritual life.

During the 1800s, this church ran an almshouse on its grounds to help local residents of the neighborhood. This charitable work became an important part of how the community saw itself.
