Church of the Dormition in Kazachya Sloboda, Moscow

The Church of the Dormition is an Eastern Orthodox church in Yakimanka District with an octagonal tower set above a cube-shaped base and a bell tower displaying Moscow baroque features. A vestibule provides entry to the main prayer space.

The church was built in 1695 and underwent major structural changes between 1797 and 1798. After closure in 1922 for use as an archive, it resumed religious services in 1994.

The interior displays Orthodox icons and frescoes with biblical scenes that represent traditional Russian religious artistry. These sacred artworks continue to shape the spiritual character of the church today.

The church is located on Bolshaya Polyanka Street at building 37, number 3, near Polyanka metro station. This central location makes visiting convenient for those exploring downtown Moscow.

For decades, the building served as an archive for administrative documents rather than as a place of worship. This lengthy interruption makes its restoration to active religious use today particularly noteworthy.
