Church of St. Paraskevi, Novgorod

The Church of St. Paraskevi stands near the market square with three naves supported by four pillars and walls built from plinthite and limestone.

Founded in 1207 by Novgorod merchants, this stone church replaced two previous wooden structures that were constructed in 1156 and 1191.

The church bears architectural elements from Pre-Mongol Smolensk style, which later influenced ecclesiastical buildings throughout Novgorod during the 14th and 15th centuries.

The religious structure functions as a museum and forms part of the Historic Monuments of Novgorod, offering visitors insights into medieval Russian architecture.

The walls contain early medieval masonry discovered during extensive restoration work conducted between 1954 and the 2000s.
