Центр информатики и электроники, Research institute ruins in Zelenograd, Russia.
The Center for Informatics and Electronics was a complex of unfinished concrete buildings arranged in two concentric rings with an interconnected tunnel network beneath. The structures showed the scale of the planned facility, which never reached completion.
Construction began in 1986 as part of the Soviet scientific development program but halted after the Soviet Union's collapse in 1991. The site stood abandoned for decades until demolition started in 2019.
The ruins embodied Soviet confidence in technological progress and demonstrate how electronics and microelectronics held a central place in urban planning during the 1980s. Visitors could see through the unfinished structures how ambitious the nation's goals had been.
The site remained accessible until demolition began in 2019, though visitors needed to exercise caution around the deteriorating structures. Today the area is closed as a residential complex has been built on the former grounds.
Beneath the two rings ran an intricate tunnel network that carried heating and electrical systems connecting the entire complex. This hidden infrastructure was a testament to the sophisticated planning of the Soviet electronics center.
