Serednikovo

Serednikovo is a neoclassical estate in Solnechnogorsky District featuring a white main residence with four two-story wings linked by columned galleries. A broad stone staircase descends from the house toward a pond and formal gardens that extend across the grounds.

Senator Vsevolod Vsevolozhsky acquired the estate in the late 18th century and transformed it into a productive complex. He established a stud farm, orchards, greenhouses, and a tin factory that operated across the property.

Poet Mikhail Lermontov spent summers at Serednikovo from 1829 to 1832, engaging in literary pursuits within the estate's extensive library and surrounding natural environment.

The estate is accessible by public transport from Moscow using a commuter train followed by a bus connection to the site. Plan to spend several hours exploring both the house and gardens, and wear comfortable shoes as the grounds cover sloped terrain with walking paths.

An exhibition on the grounds connects the family of the original owner to Scottish ancestry, suggesting a possible link to medieval Scottish poet Thomas the Rhymer. This unexpected tie between a Russian estate and Scotland adds an intriguing layer to understanding the property's history.
