Tyritake, Archaeological site in Kerch, Ukraine
Tyritake is an archaeological site in Kerch on the Black Sea coast with remains of an ancient Greek settlement. The site spreads across several hectares and contains structural remains and objects that reveal information about the lives of ancient inhabitants.
The settlement was founded in the 6th century BC by people from Miletus and grew into an important center of the Bosporan Kingdom. It was abandoned around 370 AD and now offers insight into life in the ancient Black Sea region.
The settlement was known for its craft workshops and fishing, which shaped daily life for residents. These economic activities remain visible in the artifacts and remains discovered during ongoing excavations.
The site is relatively open to visit, but the ground is uneven and there is minimal infrastructure at the archaeological location. Visitors should wear comfortable shoes and be prepared for a basic outdoor setting.
A Polish archaeological mission has conducted extensive research since 2008, representing one of the first major international projects at this location. The work has brought significant new findings about settlement patterns and daily life in this region.
