Музей-заповедник М.П. Мусоргского

The Mussorgsky Museum Reserve is a 19th-century manor house standing on the shores of Lake Zhizhitskoye in Pskov Oblast that once belonged to the composer's family. The building contains four separate exhibitions covering the composer's life, his operatic works, rural life in that period, and features a winter garden display.

The manor house originally belonged to Ivan Chirikov, the composer's grandfather, and opened as a museum in 1970. This conversion preserved the connection between the family estate and Russian musical history.

The manor displays furnishings and objects from the 19th century that reflect how the landowning families lived during that era. These collections show visitors how Mussorgsky's relatives arranged their home and what they valued in their daily lives.

The site is located in a quiet rural area and is best reached by personal transport, as public connections are limited in this region. Visitors should allow time to walk through the park grounds and explore the ancillary buildings to fully experience the entire complex.

The museum complex extends across multiple locations, including the Naumovo manor with its park, the Karevo estate, and an old churchyard. These scattered sites together form a network of memorial places that preserves how the landscape was organized in that period.
