The statue of the French general stands in Moscow's Alexeyevsky District near Hotel Kosmos. The bronze work rests on a granite pedestal, raising the monument above the surrounding area.
The memorial was unveiled in 2005 to mark the 60th anniversary of World War II victory. Its creation represented a gesture of cooperation between Russia and France in the post-war period.
The statue portrays de Gaulle in full military dress with his distinctive bearing. Plaques at the base carry inscriptions in both Russian and French, reflecting the bond between the two nations.
The monument sits on a public plaza next to a well-known hotel, making it easy to locate and access. The best vantage point is from street level, where the full height of the work is visible.
The artwork was created by Zurab Tsereteli, a respected sculptor of the Russian Academy of Arts. Its scale and placement were deliberately chosen to harmonize with the architecture of the neighboring hotel.
