The bronze statue of Charles de Gaulle stands 8 meters tall on a 10-meter granite pedestal near the Hotel Kosmos building.
Presidents Vladimir Putin and Jacques Chirac inaugurated the memorial on May 9, 2005, commemorating the 60th anniversary of World War II victory.
The statue depicts General de Gaulle in full military uniform with his characteristic posture, created by sculptor Zurab Tsereteli of the Russian Academy of Arts.
The monument includes inscriptions in Russian and French languages stating 'General Charles de Gaulle, President of the French Republic' at its base.
The statue's substantial height corresponds to the architectural scale of the Hotel Kosmos facade, making it visible from considerable distances.
