Memorial Museum of Astronautics, Astronautical museum near VDNKh metro station, Moscow, Russia
The Memorial Museum of Astronautics is a space museum beneath a 107-meter (351-foot) titanium monument in Moscow. The collection displays space suits, satellites, rocket engines, and equipment from actual space missions.
The museum opened on April 10, 1981, as a celebration of Soviet space programs. The galleries were later expanded to accommodate more artifacts from Russian and international missions.
The museum takes its name from the Soviet cosmonauts whose work opened space for humanity. Visitors today see original pieces from real missions that show how people lived and worked in orbit.
The museum sits next to VDNKh metro station and opens Tuesday through Sunday. On Thursdays, the halls stay accessible until 21:00, and every third week offers free entry.
The collection preserves the taxidermied bodies of Belka and Strelka, the first dogs to return safely from orbit in 1960. These two animals survived their flight and became famous symbols of early space exploration after landing.
