Stele “City of Military Glory”, Military memorial column in Pervomaisk district, Rostov-on-Don, Russia.
The Stele City of Military Glory is a granite and bronze monument in the Pervomaisk district. It features a round column about 6.5 meters (21 feet) high topped with the Russian emblem, and four square pillars with bronze reliefs.
The city received the title City of Military Glory from President Putin in 2008, following an initiative by veterans and a petition from the mayor in 2007. This monument was built to honor that recognition and commemorate the city's defense.
The four square pillars display bronze reliefs that show battles and events from the city's defense during World War II. These carvings tell the story of sacrifice and resistance by people who lived and fought here.
The monument sits in the Square of Military Glory near the airport and is easy to reach. The location offers open space to explore, and the inscriptions with the presidential decree are clearly visible.
The artwork was created by a skilled team of designers, including architects Y. Dvornikov and A. Musienko alongside sculptors Sergei Oleshnya, G. Myasnikov and A. Dementiev. Their collaboration blended architectural design with sculptural detail into a unified whole.
