The excavation area extends across elevated terrain near modern Rostov-on-Don, containing multiple layers of ancient settlements and defensive structures.
Archaeological research reveals that the first settlement at Kobyakovo emerged in the 12th century BCE, established by tribes from the Kuban region.
The inhabitants of Kobyakovo maintained strong commercial relations with the Bosporan Kingdom and nomadic Sarmatian tribes through the ancient port of Tanais.
Visitors can reach the archaeological site by following the marked paths from Rostov-on-Don, with guided tours available through local cultural institutions.
The settlement features earthen fortifications, irregular planning, and remnants of clay dwellings that demonstrate the construction methods of ancient communities.
