The Military History Museum contains 69,497 artifacts including archaeological items, ancient coins, documents, photographs, and examples of traditional regional crafts.
The museum started as a school museum at Aksay Secondary School Number 1 in 1948 under the guidance of Alexander Nikolaevich Skripov.
The museum complex incorporates the preserved Cossack homestead, an 18th-century customs post, and a 19th-century postal station with historical furnishings.
Museum entrance fees are 60 rubles for adults, 40 rubles for children under 18, and 20 rubles for special categories of visitors.
Underground tunnels from the 18th century customs post now house an exhibition dedicated to the history of customs service in Lower Don region.
