Дом Шубиных

The Shubin House is an 18th-century wooden residential building on Lapina Street featuring tall walls and multiple entrances. The spatial arrangement spans a large territory displaying traditional Siberian wooden architecture.

The building was constructed in 1781 and survived the major Irkutsk fire of 1879. Restoration work began in September 2016 to recreate its late 19th-century appearance.

The house shows how wealthy families in Siberia lived and designed their homes during the 18th century. The structure with its tall walls and multiple entrances reflects how residents of that era organized their domestic spaces.

The site is located on Lapina Street and can be viewed from outside as restoration work remains ongoing. Summer is the best time to visit when Irkutsk weather is pleasant and the wooden structure is better illuminated by daylight.

The house was built with unusually tall walls to circumvent laws that banned two-story buildings in the late 18th century. This construction technique was a clever response to the building restrictions of that era.
