The Church of the Saviour stands as a brick structure with multiple domes, featuring traditional Russian Orthodox architectural elements on the banks of the Volga River.
Built between 1677 and 1682 by Greek merchant Basil Kondaki, the church replaced an earlier wooden structure from 1584 that stood at the same location.
The interior walls once displayed religious frescoes created by Aleksey Soplyakov in 1736, representing the artistic traditions of the Yaroslavl school of architecture.
The church complex includes a smaller parish building dedicated to the Presentation of Jesus, accessed through the main entrance near the Volga River bank.
The building served various non-religious purposes during the 20th century, including functioning as a depot after the removal of its original domes.
