The Volzhskaya tower exhibits a square base design with thick brick walls and stands near the bank of the Volga River.
Built between 1658 and 1669, this structure formed part of the city fortifications, which included six gated towers and twenty blank wooden towers.
The tower represents a significant example of 17th-century Russian military architecture and maintains federal cultural heritage site status.

The structure transformed from a military fortification into an arsenal and later housed a tavern named 'The Tower' in the 19th century.
