The World War I Heroes Memorial in Kaliningrad is a monument in the city center of Kaliningrad, Russia, dedicated to Russian soldiers who fought in World War I. It consists of a bronze figure standing upright on a granite base, holding a sword and scabbard.
The memorial was unveiled on May 30, 2014, marking 100 years since Russia entered World War I on the side of the Allies. Sculptor A.M. Dementiev was commissioned to create the work in memory of soldiers from that period.
The bronze soldier holds a sword in his right hand and a scabbard in his left, dressed in full military uniform. The monument stands in a public square where people stop to pay their respects.
The memorial is located in central Kaliningrad and can be visited at any time as it stands in an open public space. Daytime visits make it easier to see the details of the bronze figure and the granite base.
The granite used for the base comes from two different regions, Karelia and Ukraine, bringing together materials from far apart. The design also features the Saint George Cross, one of the oldest Russian military decorations.
