Sofiero Palace, Royal palace in Helsingborg Municipality, Sweden.
Sofiero Palace is a royal residence with Dutch Renaissance architecture situated along the Öresund coast in Helsingborg Municipality. The stone-built structure sits within extensive gardens that slope toward the water, featuring two rhododendron ravines that create natural depth and visual interest.
A Swedish prince acquired the property in 1864 and built the initial structure on the Scanian farmland. The building underwent major expansion between 1874 and 1876, creating the estate that exists today.
The grounds serve as a green retreat for visitors exploring the plant collections and walking through the landscaped gardens. Today, the palace represents a place where people come to experience nature and learn about royal gardening traditions.
The palace operates seasonally and visitors can tour the interior spaces while enjoying cafés and shops on the grounds. Walking through the gardens is best experienced during the growing season when the plants are in full bloom, so allow extra time to wander the pathways without hurrying.
A former king developed one of Europe's largest collections of rhododendrons on these grounds, planting hundreds of different varieties throughout the estate. This exceptional plant collection continues to draw gardening enthusiasts who come to see the breadth of flowering species displayed across the landscape.
