Jumbo Stay, Aircraft hostel at Stockholm Arlanda Airport, Sweden
Jumbo Stay is a hostel built inside a retired Boeing 747-200 aircraft near Stockholm Arlanda Airport. The repurposed plane contains 29 rooms with space for 61 guests in private and shared dormitory options, along with a restaurant serving simple meals.
The aircraft was converted into lodging in 2008, creating an innovative accommodation option near the airport. This transformation rescued the plane from being dismantled and gave it a functional second purpose.
The converted aircraft serves as a living example of how Sweden repurposes transportation heritage into functional spaces. Guests experience the novelty of sleeping within a vessel once designed for international flight.
The hostel provides five shared bathrooms, free wireless internet, and bicycle storage for guests. Its proximity to the airport makes it convenient for travelers with early morning or late evening flights.
The cockpit suite on the upper deck sits within the original flight deck and retains the aircraft's authentic controls and instruments. Guests can watch airport activity directly through the plane's original windows.
