Husby-Ärlinghundra Church, Medieval church in Sigtuna Municipality, Sweden

Husby-Ärlinghundra Church is a church in Sigtuna Municipality featuring an unusual tower at the eastern end with a rounded spire that extends over the choir and altar sections. The building combines a stone-built religious structure with a cemetery that now serves as the main burial ground for Märsta Parish.

The stone structure began construction in the 1150s, with the tower, choir, and approximately one-third of the nave surviving from this original medieval period. The building's eastern tower design became a defining feature that has remained unchanged through the centuries.

Inside you can find medieval sculptures including a 13th-century figure of St Michael defeating a dragon and 14th-century depictions of Mary and John near the cross. These carvings are part of the building's religious decoration that visitors notice during a visit.

The grounds are easy to access and offer space to explore the church and the extensive cemetery with various burial sections including dedicated areas for different communities. Visitors find clear pathways on site that guide through the complex and make different areas accessible.

This is one of only four churches with an eastern tower position in the Uppland region, making it a rare example of this uncommon architectural arrangement. This orientation differed sharply from the usual practices of medieval church design.
