Fladen, Approach lighthouse in Varberg Municipality, Sweden.
Fladen is an approach lighthouse located in the Kattegat waters off Varberg Municipality. It stands 26 meters tall as a concrete caisson structure built to guide ships through this busy shipping route.
Built in 1969, the lighthouse represented an advancement in Swedish coastal navigation technology using modern concrete construction. This structure replaced earlier navigation methods in the Kattegat area.
The lighthouse continues the Swedish maritime tradition of establishing navigation structures to support maritime commerce and safety along the coastline.
The lighthouse sends out navigational signals visible from a considerable distance to guide ships safely through the area. Note that this is an active navigation structure in open waters, not a site for casual access.
A radio beacon was originally part of the structure but stopped operating in 1992. Today it functions only as a traditional light signal for passing ships.
