Bunge Museum

Bunge Museum is an open-air museum with about 80 historical buildings arranged like real farmsteads, showing rural life on Gotland across different periods. The houses come from various eras and were gathered here to preserve the old way of life.

The museum was founded in 1907, and soon after, people began rescuing old buildings that would have been demolished. Since then, more houses have been brought here to document rural life from past centuries.

The buildings show how people lived and worked on this island over the centuries. You can see the typical black wooden houses that define the local architecture.

The best approach is to walk slowly through the farmsteads and spend time at each house. Paths run between the buildings, and you can reach most areas on foot.

Hidden around the museum grounds are ancient stone slabs carved with pictures by early island inhabitants over a thousand years ago. These mysterious stones are found nowhere else and add a surprising depth to the site.
