Swedish History Museum

The museum spans 10,000 years of Swedish history through exhibitions containing over 10 million objects, from prehistoric artifacts to contemporary cultural items.

The collection originated from King Gustav Vasa's 16th-century art assemblage at Gripsholm Castle and expanded through royal acquisitions until becoming public property in 1792.

The Vikings exhibition presents 2,500 original artifacts across 1,000 square meters, including weapons, jewelry, and ceremonial objects from the period 800 to 1050.

The museum opens Tuesday through Sunday from 11:00 to 17:00, with extended hours until 20:00 on Wednesdays, offering audio guides in seven languages.

The underground Gold Room contains 52 kilograms of gold and 200 kilograms of silver objects, housed in a vault carved into bedrock beneath the courtyard.
