Åkeshov Castle

Åkeshov Castle, 17th-century château in Stockholm Municipality, Sweden.

Åkeshov Castle is a 17th-century château in Stockholm Municipality featuring stone facades and symmetrical wings in traditional Swedish style. The building sits within the Judarskogen nature reserve and operates today as a hotel and conference center.

Baron Åke Axelsson began construction of this estate in 1635 on the former Nockeby property. Between 1723 and 1740, architect Carl Hårleman carried out major renovations that shaped the building into its present form.

The rooms display furniture and decoration from different periods of Swedish noble life. Visitors can see how the aristocracy lived and what they valued in their daily surroundings.

The castle is accessible today as a hotel and sits within a nature reserve with walking trails near Stockholm. Visitors should come prepared with good shoes if they want to explore the surrounding area.

Architect Carl Hårleman, one of Sweden's most important builders of his era, shaped the renovations and created spaces with special details. His work on the castle shows features of his style that emphasized order and balance.
