Borgeby Castle, Medieval castle in Lomma Municipality, Sweden
Borgeby Castle stands beside the Kävlingeån River with a 15th-century tower, a 13th-century gatehouse, and a main building dating to 1550. The buildings form a well-preserved ensemble from different periods of medieval and early modern times.
The castle began as a fortified stronghold around 980 under Danish king Harald Bluetooth. It later served for several centuries as a residence for the Archbishop of Lund, until this connection ended in 1536.
The Norlindmuseet occupies the gatehouse since 1988 and displays artworks and literary pieces by artist Ernst Norlind. This collection represents how the castle became a center for artistic expression in modern times.
The castle rents its rooms for meetings, seminars, events, and celebrations, and operates a café during summer months. Visitors should note that opening times may vary depending on scheduled events.
Archaeologists discovered remains of a medieval mint at the site during 1998 excavations. This finding shows the castle was an important administrative center with its own currency production.
