Skara Municipality

Gemeinde Skara is an administrative municipality in Västra Götaland in western Sweden, encompassing several localities including Ardala, Axvall, Eggby, Skara and Varnhem. The area spreads across open countryside with fields, forests and lakes that shape its landscape.

The city of Skara itself emerged around 988 AD and became an important religious and trading center during medieval times. This early foundation made it one of Sweden's oldest settlements.

The Museum of Västergötland and its open-air section Fornbyn show traditional buildings and objects that reflect how people in this region lived over time. You can walk around and see old crafts and daily life displayed as they were actually practiced here.

The best time to visit is spring and autumn when the weather is mild and nature is active. The area is easily accessible by car and parking is available in the various localities.

Lake Hornborga is known as a stopover for thousands of cranes traveling between southern Europe and northern Scandinavia. These migratory birds make regular stops to refuel and rest during their journey.
