Ystad Djurpark, Animal park in Skårby, Sweden
Ystad Djurpark is an animal park set across hilly grasslands with spacious enclosures housing around 250 animals from about 60 species including zebras, antelopes, and primates. The facilities spread across the grounds with room between sections and offer different zones for various animal groups.
The park was established in 1998 and is now the southernmost zoo in Sweden. Its development represents the growth from a new facility to an established destination in the region.
The park maintains a collection of traditional Swedish farm breeds, including the Linderöd pig and Gute sheep with their characteristic ram horns. These heritage animals are integrated into the daily experience and show visitors the agricultural diversity of the region.
The grounds are open from May through September and feature three restaurants, seven playgrounds, and two swimming pools for all visitors. The natural terrain and pathways require comfortable walking shoes for navigating hills and moving across the entire site.
The facility participates in Sweden's white stork reintroduction program and maintains an Alligator House developed with Lund University researchers. These specialized projects make the location more than just a zoo and demonstrate commitment to conservation efforts.
