Drottningholm Palace Theatre

The theatre features original stage machinery from the 18th century, including a chariot-and-pole system for rapid scene changes and wooden benches for court seating.

Queen Lovisa Ulrika commissioned architect Carl Fredrik Adelcrantz to rebuild the theatre in 1764 after the original structure burned down during a performance in 1762.

The interior decoration by Adrien Masreliez uses trompe l'oeil, papier-mâché, and stucco techniques to create the appearance of expensive materials throughout the space.

The theatre functions as a summer venue for the Royal Swedish Opera since 1951, offering guided tours and performances during the warmer months.

The T-shaped auditorium contains specific thrones for monarchs and maintains its original stage mechanisms, making it one of Europe's best-preserved historical theatres.
