Gärsnäs Castle, Medieval castle in Simrishamn Municipality, Sweden
Gärsnäs Castle is a castle in southern Sweden, in Simrishamn Municipality, with a pink exterior and around 27 interior rooms. The rooms are decorated with patterned wallpapers and traditional fireplaces, and the grounds include three separate outhouses and an orangery.
The castle was built in 1630 on the site of a 14th-century fortress, commissioned by Falk Lykke. A few decades later, Heinrich Rantzau took control of the property, shaping the next phase of its history.
The pink exterior has given the building an unofficial nickname among locals who call it the Pink Castle. The gardens hold classical sculptures placed there by former owners, and they remain a visible part of the grounds today.
The property sits in a rural part of southern Sweden and is most easily reached by private vehicle. Allow enough time to walk both the interior rooms and the grounds, including the orangery and outhouses.
Some visitors and locals report unexplained occurrences inside the castle that certain people attribute to the spirit of its original builder. These accounts have been part of local memory around the property for a long time.
