Gränsö Slott, Manor house in Västervik, Sweden
Gränsö Slott is a seaside castle situated on a peninsula in the Småland archipelago with approximately 48 rooms and varied interior spaces. The property features coastal walking paths and gardens surrounding the main building.
The castle was built in 1807 and destroyed by a major fire in 1993, then reconstructed in 1994. The rebuilding returned the estate to active use and gave it its current form.
The dining establishment draws on culinary recipes and cooking methods from the 1700s, blending them into its present-day Swedish cuisine. Visitors can taste how historical food traditions have shaped the kitchen's approach today.
A spa complex with eight temperature-controlled pools and thermal baths provides direct access to the Baltic Sea through a floating sauna. Visitors can enjoy water facilities while taking in coastal views.
The grounds remain open to the public, allowing both hotel guests and local residents to walk through and explore the property. This open-access approach creates a shared space where visitors mix naturally with those who live nearby.
