Aeroseum

Aeroseum is an aviation museum housed in a massive underground bunker system built during the Cold War. The facility consists of branching tunnels beneath a thick rock layer and displays fighter jets, civilian aircraft, and various helicopters.

The site was built in 1955 as a secret Air Force base to protect aircraft from nuclear attacks. After the Cold War ended, the bunker was converted into a museum and now displays Swedish aviation technology and defense history.

The museum reflects how aviation shaped Swedish identity and the role fighter jets played during Cold War tensions. Visitors can see the engineering of the time and understand why these machines mattered so much to the country.

The underground location means the temperature and humidity stay stable year-round, regardless of weather outside. Visitors should wear comfortable shoes since there is much to explore and some areas have stairs.

The tunnel system was originally designed with gates that allowed fighter jets to launch quickly without leaving the entrance exposed. This engineering feat shows how creative Cold War defense planners had to be.
