S A Hedlunds park

S A Hedlunds Park is a municipal park in the Slättadamm district of Gothenburg and features a constructed pond called Slätta damm with walking paths throughout. The grounds are surrounded by cultivated trees and natural vegetation across roughly 1.1 hectares.

The park was founded around 1860 when Sven Adolf Hedlund, a prominent publicist and parliament member, transformed the Bjurslätt farm into his summer residence. What began as a private estate later became a public space for the community.

A carved rock wall at the park entrance displays over 60 names of notable visitors, including Henrik Ibsen and Viktor Rydberg, who frequented the area. These engravings record guests who stayed here during the 19th century and remain a visible part of the location's story.

The park is easily accessible and offers various pathways for walking and exploring the surroundings. Visitors can explore the space without special equipment and choose their own route depending on how much time they have available.

A stonemason carved the guest names into the rock wall and received payment of one crown per letter during the 19th century. This payment arrangement shows how artistic work was compensated during that period.
