Thorskogs Grand Manor House, Manor house in Västerlanda, Sweden
Thorskogs Grand Manor House is a manor house in Västerlanda, Sweden, with around forty furnished rooms used for stays and events. The building sits inside an English landscape park with marked trails through the surrounding forest.
The manor was built in 1892 by shipyard owner Petter Larson. The land it stands on was reportedly the site of a meeting between King Haakon of Norway and Earl Birger of Sweden in 1249.
The restaurant at the property is listed in the White Guide, the main Swedish restaurant guide, and prepares dishes from regional ingredients. The menu changes with the seasons, so what is served shifts throughout the year.
The property has 31 hotel rooms along with conference and dining areas, making it work for both short stays and longer events. There are also wood-fired hot tubs and a sauna on the grounds.
In 2009 and 2010, the manor was used as a filming location for the Swedish television series Stjärnorna på slottet, which featured Swedish celebrities staying at the property. The filming took place in the actual rooms of the house, giving the building an unusual kind of recognition across Sweden.
