Rinkesta, Heritage château in Eskilstuna Municipality, Sweden.
Rinkesta is a château in Eskilstuna Municipality positioned between two lakes, featuring traditional Swedish building forms and formal gardens around the grounds. The buildings display multiple construction styles that were added or modified during the time of different owners.
The château came into the hands of Privy Councillor Gustaf Gabrielsson Oxenstierna in 1594, who started its development. After a fire in 1698, it underwent major rebuilding and remodeling under later owner Thure Leonard Klinckowström around 1775.
The name comes from an old noble family whose taste shaped the interior design over time. The rooms show how the preferences and styles of successive residents evolved through different periods.
Access is through marked pathways in Eskilstuna Municipality with directional signs to the grounds. The best time to visit is during warmer months when the gardens are more lush and walking the trails is more comfortable.
The château survived a devastating fire that severely damaged its structure, but was later completely restored and transformed. This recovery and reshaping made it into a different building than the original, almost like rising from the ashes.
