Allarps bjär, Nature reserve with basalt formations in Skåne, Sweden
Allarps bjär is a nature reserve featuring basalt formations in Skåne, southern Sweden. The northern section rises as a distinctive knoll with hexagonal columns of solidified lava visible along its slopes and throughout the rocky terrain.
The basalt hills formed during volcanic activity in the Jurassic and early Cretaceous periods, creating the geological structures visible today. This ancient volcanism shaped the landscape millions of years ago and left behind distinctive rock formations.
The Skåneleden trail passes through the reserve, linking visitors to nearby attractions while showcasing how local communities have historically engaged with the surrounding landscape.
The reserve is accessible by gravel road from Hallaröd, with parking available at the base of the hill. The terrain allows visitors to explore the rocky formations and basalt structures on foot without special equipment.
The reserve supports around 30 rare species, including the barbastelle bat and eleven types of protected lichens found within its broadleaf forest areas.
