Alma Löv Museum, Art museum in Östra Ämtervik, Sweden.
Alma Löv Museum is an art museum in Östra Ämtervik, Sunne Municipality, Sweden, housed in a converted three-story barn. Around the main building, ten separate pavilions are spread across the surrounding fields and forests, forming the full exhibition grounds.
The museum was founded in 1998 by Marc Broos, who transformed an empty rural barn into an exhibition space. Over the years, additional pavilions were added, gradually turning the property into the multi-building site it is today.
The museum shows contemporary art in a setting where the surrounding fields and forests are as much a part of the experience as the works themselves. Walking from one pavilion to another, visitors notice how each work responds to its specific location and light.
Getting around the site requires walking between the barn and the scattered pavilions, so sturdy shoes are a good idea. Some outdoor areas can become muddy or hard to reach in wet weather, so a dry day makes the visit much easier.
The museum regularly shows work by art students alongside that of established artists, which is unusual for a rural venue of this kind. This means that what you see can vary a great deal from one visit to the next.
