Södertuna Castle, Manor estate in Gnesta Municipality, Sweden.
Södertuna Castle sits on a small island in Lake Frösjön and combines medieval elements with renovations from the 17th and 18th centuries. The building was later adapted as a hotel with rooms offering different views over the lake, park, or garden.
The castle was founded in medieval times and underwent major rebuilding during the 17th and 18th centuries. In 1985 it was separated from its parkland, and in 1986 it opened as a hotel following conversion work.
The dining spaces display design elements from the 18th century and serve regional dishes made with ingredients from the Sörmland region. The food preparation emphasizes local products that reflect the connection to the surrounding landscape.
The hotel offers rooms with modern comfort such as LCD televisions and wireless internet connection, each furnished differently. Visitors can enjoy activities like canoeing in summer or ice skating on the frozen lake during winter months.
The island in the lake was originally more heavily fortified and served strategic purposes during different periods of regional history. This defensive past remains visible in the structure and location of the building today.
