Boden Town, Urban municipality in Norrbotten County, Sweden
Boden is a town in Norrbotten located about 36 kilometers southeast of Luleå, serving as a major railway junction point. It sits at the intersection where the Northern Line and Ore Line meet, connecting travelers to most large Swedish cities.
The place was first mentioned in a 1539 tax document, though its real growth came much later. It received official city status in 1919 and became a municipal administrative center in 1971.
The Swedish Army garrison has long been central to how the town works and what visitors notice about its character. Many residents are connected to military service or related work, which shapes the identity of the place.
The town is easy to reach by train since it sits at a major junction with good connections throughout Sweden. Visitors should know the winter is long and dark here, though the summer compensates with extended daylight and mild temperatures.
A new steel mill is being built by the Stegra company and will use hydrogen-based production to reduce emissions. The facility is scheduled to start operations in 2026 and could reshape the region's economic future.
