Chalmers kårhus

Chalmers kårhus is the student union building at Chalmers University of Technology in Gothenburg, containing leisure facilities and services for the academic community. It features a swimming pool, gym, dining venues, conference spaces, bars, sauna, and a cinema spread across its structure.

The first student union building, called Lopphuset, opened in 1944 and initially served a practical purpose before becoming a social venue. The current structure was designed by architect Gert Wingårdh and completed in 2001 to replace its predecessor.

The building serves as a gathering space for the university community, where students meet between classes and build social connections over meals and drinks. It reflects the active student life on campus and shapes how the institution feels from within.

The building is easily accessible with numerous areas for relaxing, dining, or exercising regardless of weather conditions. The different spaces are well-organized so visitors can navigate to whatever suits their interests.

It stands as the largest student-owned building in Sweden and houses the underground nightclub Gasquen, which has operated continuously since its early days. This venue contributes to the distinctive character of the space and draws visitors seeking a specific kind of social experience.
