Floda Church, Medieval stone church in Flodafors, Sweden
Floda Church is a neo-Gothic brick basilica with three naves and interior paintings from the 1480s. The building holds a Renaissance-style pulpit from 1662, an altar cabinet from 1450, and a baptismal font from 1671.
Construction began in the 12th century as a simple stone church serving the local community. Major renovation and rebuilding took place in the 1880s under architect Adolf Kjellström, which shaped its current appearance.
The interior paintings were created by artist Albertus Pictor and reflect the artistic traditions of medieval Sweden's religious spaces. Visitors today can see how these works shaped the spiritual experience inside the building for centuries.
The church is located in Flodafors and managed by the Diocese of Strängnäs. Visitors should check local information about opening times and service schedules before planning a visit.
In the 1630s the building was extended with a new sacristy, a significant addition to accommodate the congregation's needs at that time. This expansion represented an important investment in the building's facilities.
