Curmanska villan, Renaissance villa in Östermalm, Stockholm, Sweden.
Curmanska villan is a residential mansion in Östermalm featuring a striking glass-covered atrium that serves as a central hall, inspired by architectural examples from Berlin and Potsdam. The interior showcases elegant spatial arrangements with careful craftsmanship throughout its rooms and corridors.
This residence was built between 1880 and 1881 for Carl and Calla Curman following designs by architect Fritz Eckert. The project drew from an initial concept developed by Carl Curman himself.
During the late 1800s, the villa became a center for social gatherings where the Curman couple actively participated in cultural events.
The building is located centrally in Stockholm at Floragatan 3 and remains visible from the street, though it now serves as an embassy building. The original architectural features are preserved and can be observed from outside.
Carl Curman himself played an unusual role as both patron and designer, shaping the final form of the house through his direct involvement. His personal vision thus became a defining feature of this Stockholm residence.
