Humlegården

Humlegården is a public park in the Östermalm district featuring tree-lined pathways, grassy meadows, and planted gardens arranged throughout the grounds. The space includes a playground, skateboard area, and soccer field alongside outdoor dining spots during warmer months.

King Johan III created this space in 1583 as a royal garden for growing hops, fruits, and spices for the Swedish monarchy. It gradually transformed from a private cultivated garden into a public recreational area accessible to everyone.

The Royal Library building anchors the park's eastern side, where people browse books and documents reflecting Swedish intellectual life. Inside, readers find themselves surrounded by national literary treasures that span centuries.

The park has wide, easy paths suitable for walking at any pace and accessibility for different mobility levels. Visitors can engage in quiet strolls or active games depending on preference and season.

A bronze statue of botanist Carl Linnaeus stands at the center, sculpted by Johannes Frithiof Kjellberg in 1885. This monument draws visitors interested in natural history and Swedish scientific achievement.
