Frösö Zoo, Animal park on Frösön island, Sweden.
Frösö Zoo is a 42-hectare animal facility on Frösön island housing around 700 animals from approximately 50 different species. The park features naturally designed enclosures for tigers, lions, dwarf crocodiles, lemurs, and moose, along with a large tropical house containing reptiles and primates.
The facility opened in 1960 when Åke Netterström founded it to become one of northern Sweden's largest animal collections. Over the decades it grew with a particular focus on tropical carnivores and became a major regional attraction.
The zoo's biological museum holds a collection of prehistoric fossils that tell stories of ancient worlds. This addition enriches the visitor experience by connecting living animals with the natural history that shaped them.
The zoo grounds feature various activities like mini-golf, arcade games, and kayaking to complement your visit. The entrance is located at Bergsgatan 111 on Frösön, and since the park operates seasonally, visiting during warmer months works best for enjoying the outdoor experience.
The tropical house spans 1,600 square meters (17,200 square feet) and is Sweden's largest structure of its kind, housing crocodiles, snakes, lizards, and various monkey species. This expansive single building becomes a focal point for observing tropical reptiles and primates in one place.
