Östersunds rådhus, Town hall in Östersund, Sweden
Östersunds rådhus is a town hall in Östersund featuring a distinctive onion-shaped dome on its main tower. The red brick building stands approximately 51 meters tall and contains two grand interior halls used for judicial and municipal purposes.
The building was constructed between 1909 and 1912 under the direction of architect Frans Bertil Wallberg. Its completion marked a period of significant growth for Östersund during the early 20th century.
The interior displays regional craftsmanship through wooden panels, linen wallpaper, and parquet floors sourced from the Jämtland area. Brass works and iron chandeliers created by local artisans shape the look and feel of the grand rooms.
The building stands in the city center and is easy to identify by its distinctive tower. Adjacent spaces house municipal offices and the two grand halls that serve different civic functions.
The weathervane at the top displays Saint George battling a dragon in golden form and can be seen from many locations throughout the city. This ornament has become a recognizable landmark in the urban landscape.
