E4-bron, Södertälje

The E4-bron consists of two parallel lift bridges spanning 448 meters across the Södertälje Canal with a width of 13.3 meters for vehicular traffic.

The bridge opened in 1965 during the construction of the E4 motorway through Södertälje, replacing the previous traffic route through the city center.

The bridge functions as a central connection point between the Södra and Viksängen districts, supporting the daily movement of local residents across the canal.

The bridge maintains a standard clearance of 26 meters for water traffic, extending to 42 meters when raised, with operations controlled remotely from Lotsudden.

In 1990, the northern lift span experienced a structural failure during operation, requiring a temporary British BB2 bridge installation for ten months.
