Golfängarna, Nature reserve in Sundbyberg, Sweden
Golfängarna is a 28-hectare park in Sundbyberg with open grass areas, walking paths, and a stream linking two lakes through its eastern section. The site includes a splash pool, mini-golf course, tennis courts, boules court, and children's playground for recreational use.
The land began as a golf course in 1912 and hosted the Swedish Golf Championship five times before transitioning into a public park. This shift transformed the space from an exclusive sporting venue into a community gathering place.
This space serves as Sundbyberg's primary venue for the annual National Day celebration, where neighbors gather and participate in community festivities together. The gathering reinforces social bonds and marks the park as a place where residents feel connected to their local identity.
The park is easily accessible on foot and offers activities suitable for different ages and interests. Visiting on weekends or clear days brings more people and makes the various facilities easier to enjoy.
A few pine trees here are estimated to be between 150 and 200 years old and host rare tick species, pointing to valuable natural habitats. These ancient trees show the site has preserved ecological characteristics despite its years as a sports venue.
