Högklint

Högklint is a nature reserve on the western coast of Gotland featuring limestone cliffs that rise about 46 meters above sea level and form nearly vertical walls. The formations consist of reef limestone with alternating layers of limestone and marl slate.

The site gained official protection status in 1969 when designated as a nature reserve under Swedish environmental law. This designation ensured preservation of the geological and natural features for future generations.

The cliffs feature in local stories about a pirate whose name is still remembered in the cave names found throughout the area. These tales shape how visitors experience and interpret the landscape today.

The reserve is accessible via several hiking trails including a loop of about 5 kilometers circling through the area. Visitors should wear sturdy footwear as paths cross uneven and rocky terrain.

The caves within the cliffs show traces of human occupation from past times and remain visible to hikers today. These archaeological hints make the site a window into the area's earlier periods.
